Verizon Foundation
Building Tools to Do More Good
The Verizon Foundation is one of the top corporate foundations in the world, investing $76 million a year in nonprofit partners and programs that further literacy, education, domestic violence prevention, healthcare and accessibility, and Internet safety. And we have had the privilege of working with the foundation as consultants, strategic planners, media relations experts, speechwriters and video producers for many years.
In 2006, the foundation tapped our decade-long experience in their literacy initiatives for a new endeavor – building and promoting comprehensive resources for lifelong literacy and learning as part of the foundation’s unique and unprecedented educational Web site, Thinkfinity.org.
We collaborated with the foundation’s literacy team and three national partner organizations that provide research-based content for the site – the American Library Association, the National Center for Family Literacy and ProLiteracy Worldwide. We designed, built and now manage the Thinkfinity Literacy Network; we provide ongoing communication and support to its users; and we promote this resource through an ongoing national media relations campaign.
We’re proud of earning a 2007 Horizon Interactive Award in Education/Training for the Thinkfinity Literacy Network. But we’re even more proud of the fact that, thanks to the Verizon Foundation’s generosity and the exceptional resources provided by the nonprofit partners, thousands of literacy instructors, program managers and volunteers are better informed and better trained – and better able to help learners of all ages achieve literacy.
